Removes PAID FOR features for existing users, premature release
This 2.0 version is hostile to existing users, and lowers your trust in this app and the developer. Would you buy an app knowing that the developer would remove features that you have already paid for and ask you for a monthly fee to hold for ransom what you already had access to?
The good:
* updated interface and icon brings the app look and feel into the iOS 7 realm (thanks, we are on iOS 9 now, but ok, finally).
* new vertical scroll may be better than the swipe "turn page" version.
* thats it. nothing else good.
The bad:
* PAID TRANSLATIONS VANISH. Existing users who update LOSE access to translations (I have paid for NIV, and NKJV, and they are gone... ) This is a Bible app... Try to imagine how people would feel if you ripped pages out of their Bible...
* MONEY GRAB SWITCH TO PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION. Previously you could one time purchase a premium subscription, giving access to Bible related media. Now you have to pay $5 a month. How much new media will they provide each month to justify the new subscription charges? A one-time fee was better for users. Strike two.
* PREMATURE RELEASE. Translation issues are said by dev to be related to publisher rights issues. App description says they will come back... why not realease your new app when all of that is taken care of? "Settings" access within app is counter intuitive. Real settings are here and there, difficult to find, and what is labeled "Settings" only contains About, Change Password, and offers links to "like" them on FB.
MAYBE new users will like it-- but BEWARE. You dont know what features this developer will rip out of your Bible and hold hostage for a monthly fee...
As an existing user, I am actively searching for a replacement, such as YouVersion (another subscription model) or Logos Bible! (expensive, per book purchases, but at least they dont have a reputation for changing their model.
